Native to Eastern North America, near the Appalachian mountains, black cohosh has traditionally been used by Native Americans for hundreds of years. It grows wild and is called the "fairy candle" due to the tall white flower that grows from the stem. However, they root is what the wild foragers are after and is dug up in the autumn and dried and powdered.
